Day 6

Today was a chilled Sunday, which started with a nice, long lie-in! After breakfast we had an extended team meeting, where some members shared their thoughts for the day. We had a guest appearance from The Incredible Hulk, as Zak's arm turned green when his water bottle label melted in the heat...

After a quick shirt change and some intense arm scrubbing, it was time to head to Humayan's Tomb. This impressive site  was built by Emperor Humayan's widow in memory of her late husband.

It was also Mr Donnelly's opportunity to showcase his new Maths class mascot, Boris the squirrel, to the people of India. There were lots of tourists taking pictures, but many were taking pictures with us! It seems as though the Ballymena Academy Asha Team are now celebrity icons in the city of Delhi.

There followed what should have been a relaxing lunch at Pizza Hut, but when there is an entire menu of dishes to choose from it's very hard to decide. With orders placed and food brought out, we all tucked in as Adam drenched his pizza with Tomato Ketchup! Of course he did...

India Gate was next and a lot bigger than we expected. After pushing through the crowds to get a picture of the team in front of it, we were bombarded with venders selling a range of products which varied from sunglasses to toy cars and a chance to see a cobra. The Arc de Triomphe - Indian style.

Then we were off to the beautiful Akshardham, where the queues were shorter than we anticipated! This breathtaking Hindu Temple allowed us to experience a different religion, as well as seeing the golden statues of the gods. Unfortunately there was a strict "no photo policy" for the temple, but take our word for it - it was stunning!

To finish off what was an amazing day, we all watched a sound and light water show at the temple. It's fair to say it was a true spectacle full of interesting music and vibrant colours, and even better that we didn't get soaked!

So it's back to Tigri tomorrow to see all of our new friends, we cannot wait to go!
Keep the comments coming, hope all is well at home.

P.S. Check out the extra photos added to yesterday's blog.

  6. Glad to hear your day started with a lie-in. Thank you for all the fun photographs. I don't know what to make of photo 14 - Jessica and Rachelle sleeping, Aimee just about to go over, but poor Mr Donnelly, did someone do something bad to Boris?
On a more serious note, we are praying that you continue to enjoy your time away, that you all keep well and that you have energy for the week ahead. John and Sarah xx

  7. Morning again – I so want to be there, what another amazing day of your trip!! Really great to see you all so relaxed and having so much fun. Particularly love the poses in the group photo – Matt, impressive yet scary…..But Boris is hands-down the star of the show, the camera loves him 😊 Archie sends a very tired woof – he spent the morning on the beach chasing waves and other dogs! Have a wonderful day with the children and the lane visits - I’m sure they are just as excited to see you. Lots of love from us all xoxo

Ps for those of you who watch Stranger things, season 2 is lit (but I’d much rather be in India than binge watching Netflix in bed)
